Business Portfolio

In one lineThe safe that holds your accounts, pages and pixels.

Your Business Portfolio is the account that holds everything your business runs on inside Meta: your ad accounts, your Facebook and Instagram Pages, your pixels and datasets, and the list of people who are allowed to touch any of it. It is Meta's current name for what used to be called Business Manager, and it sits completely separate from your personal Facebook profile so the business does not live or die on one person's login.

Think about what you actually have running right now. You have an ad account that spends money every day, a Page that people message and comment on, a pixel that has spent months learning who buys from you, and maybe a freelancer or two who log in to build campaigns. The Business Portfolio is the one place all of that lives together, and when you open Business Settings you see it laid out in the left column: accounts, pages, data sources, and under People, every human who has access and exactly what they can do. Nothing floats around loose. Everything belongs to the portfolio, and access is granted out from there.

This matters because the portfolio is the safe, and whoever owns the safe owns everything inside it. The pixel that took six months to train, the Page with your reviews and your follower count, the ad account with your billing and your history, all of it is only ever as secure as the portfolio that contains it. Ownership of that container is ownership of the business assets, full stop, which is why the very first thing you set up should be a portfolio that belongs to you.

The mistake that costs people their account is letting someone else create it for you. An agency or a freelancer offers to "get you set up," they spin up your ad account and your Page inside their own portfolio, and everything works fine right up until the day you want to leave. At that point you find out the assets were never yours. The pixel data, the Page, the ad account, all of it stays with them, and you walk away with nothing but the login you no longer control. The right way round is the opposite: you create and own your own Business Portfolio, then you grant the agency partner access to it, and you keep the ability to revoke that access the moment the relationship ends.

Own the portfolio yourself and hand out keys; never let someone hand you a key to a safe they own.
