Ad Account

In one lineWhere billing, people and campaigns all live.

Your ad account is the place inside your Business Portfolio where the actual advertising happens. It holds the card that pays for your ads, the list of people allowed to work, and every campaign, ad set and ad you build.

Picture the structure from the top down, because once you see it the whole thing stops being confusing. Your Business Portfolio is the outer container. Inside it sits one or more ad accounts, and a single portfolio can hold several of them, say one per brand or one per market. Inside each account is where the real work goes: your billing lives there, your campaigns and ad sets and ads are created and run there, and the permissions that let a media buyer or an agency in are granted there too. So when you open Ads Manager and start a campaign, you are always standing inside one specific ad account, spending against one specific payment method.

This matters because the ad account, not the portfolio, is the unit of billing and access. If a client asks who is paying for what, or who can touch the campaigns, the answer is always the ad account. Keep that one line straight, that the portfolio holds accounts and each account holds a payment method and its own campaigns, and you will read your own Business settings without second-guessing every screen.

Two settings get locked at the moment you create the account, and you never get them back: the currency and the time zone. If you pick the wrong currency or the wrong time zone at setup, there is no button that changes them later. The only fix is to open a brand new ad account and start fresh, losing the history and learning the old one built up. The time zone catches people out most, because it quietly decides how every report you read is measured: a day in your reporting runs on the account's time zone, not the one on your own wall clock, so a sale at 11pm your time can land on yesterday or today depending on what you chose. Go slowly on that first screen and choose both on purpose.

Set the currency and time zone right on day one, because the account will never let you change its mind.
