Promoted Ads are ordinary-looking posts you pay to place in the timeline of people who do not already follow you.
You take a post, an image, a video, a carousel of up to six cards, or plain text, and pay to push it into the feeds of a targeted audience. It carries a small Ad label but otherwise sits in the timeline like any other post, so it reads native and can be liked, reposted, and replied to.
Say you promote a single-image post to people who follow three competitor accounts. It appears in their timeline between organic posts, and in Ads Manager you watch impressions, link clicks, and cost per result the way you would judge any ad, then swap the image when the click rate sags.
Native placement does not excuse a weak first line. People assume the post blends in and so ease off the hook, when it is competing with everything else the person actually chose to follow.
It looks like a post. It still has to beat every real post around it.
