A Sponsored Filter is a branded overlay users add to their own Snaps, tied to a location or to an event and date range.

You design a static or animated overlay, set the geofence or event window in Ads Manager, and it becomes available to swipe onto Snaps inside that boundary. You pay by reach and by the size and duration of the fence. Users choose to apply it, and every friend who views that Snap sees your branding at no extra cost.

A restaurant draws a fence around its building and the block around it for one Saturday. Diners swipe the branded overlay onto their food Snaps, and it reaches their friends as organic views you never pay for.

People confuse Sponsored Filters with AR Lenses. A Filter is a flat overlay the user swipes on top of a Snap; a Lens uses the camera to change the scene in real time. Filters are cheaper and simpler, and they do far less.

Distribution depends on whether people actually want to use it.
