The Pinterest Tag is a piece of JavaScript on your site that reports visitor actions, like page views and checkouts, back to Pinterest.

You place the base tag on every page and event tags on the actions that matter, page visit, add to cart, checkout. Those events feed conversion reporting, retargeting audiences, and the optimization that a conversion campaign runs on. Without it, Pinterest cannot see what happened after the click, so it cannot tell you or itself which ads produced sales.

A store fires a checkout event with order value and quantity on its confirmation page, and that event becomes the signal its conversion campaigns optimize toward.

Browser tags miss a growing share of events. Ad blockers, privacy settings, and Safari restrictions drop a meaningful chunk of client-side fires. Advertisers install the tag, see events flowing, and assume the picture is complete. It is not, which is exactly why the tag alone is no longer the full setup.

The tag sees the click; it does not see everything after.
