Thought Leader Ads promote an individual person's post rather than a post from the company page.
You sponsor content published by a real employee's profile, so the ad shows their name, headshot, and voice instead of the brand's logo. You need the person's permission through Campaign Manager, and the boosted post keeps its original engagement and appears as that individual speaking, which reads less like an ad than a company update does.
A software firm promotes a post from its founder explaining why they built the product a certain way, targeting product leaders, so the audience sees the founder's face and words instead of a branded creative.
The person has to actually be worth promoting. A thin or self-congratulatory post from an executive does not get more credible because you put spend behind it; it just reaches more people who can see it is thin. The format amplifies the content, it does not fix it.
A face beats a logo, only if the face has something to say.
