Company targeting, the account-based approach, uploads a list of named companies so your ads reach members who work at them.

You supply a list of target accounts, LinkedIn matches the company names to its Pages, and you serve ads only to members employed there, usually combined with a seniority or function filter to hit the right people inside each account. It is the mechanism behind most B2B account-based programs on LinkedIn.

Sales hands you fifty target accounts. You upload the list, match it to LinkedIn companies, layer on a director-and-above filter, and run ads to exactly those buying committees rather than to a broad industry segment.

The match happens on company name, and it is imperfect. Subsidiaries, rebrands, and inconsistent naming mean part of your list will not match, and a fifty-account list can resolve to an audience too small to serve without loosening the people filter. Verify the matched company count and expect to enrich the list before it works.

Name the accounts, but check how many actually matched.
